I’ve realised I mostly go around acting like a teenager. The sweetest words to my ears is when people say, you look young (by the way I am young😄) or they try to guess my age and take 10 years off. It is like drinking cold water on a very hot after afternoon, very soooothing.
But is age just a number? I have been ruminating on this phrase this past week. These are a few thoughts I gathered.
I realised this phrase can be a thief of time, as it doesn’t make you accountable for your actions. It gives you the impression that you have time. This is where procrastination and laziness sets in and excuses are made on why some responsibilities are shun.
It also creates a state of nonchalance. By the time you realise you wouldn’t have achieved somethings because of the tag, age is just a number, in quote I’m still a child. You feel that you are far from everything, when in reality you are the one that has distanced yourself from everything.
It often makes you irresponsible, hence stealing your youth and trying to redeem the time (which in most cases is difficult if not by His grace). This is mostly where regret sets in, because time and chance would have passed. As we ought to always remember, there is a season for everything under the sun. It recently hit me as I was applying for a job, that, I did not fall into an age bracket, hence I wasn’t suitable for the role. To be honest it really hit me, I said to myself where did all the time goooooo!
Let’s take this scenario, if you saw a teenager or young adult drinking from a feeding bottle (with the exception of any medical reasons) what would you think of that person, or if you saw a parent letting a baby drink out of a glass, what would you make of them. Hence, there is an expectation for everyone. Therefore age doesn’t become just a number there is an expectation to it.
Notwithstanding, we need to learn to let our hair down and not let the issues/pressures of life swamp us. And go into competition or a rat race because we think time is passing us by, therefore, we have to do any and everything to redeem the time. We just have to keep calm, open ourselves to learn new things and make the most out of the time we have. As divine wisdom is needed to be able to go through life and enjoy it.
Let’s live wisely and pray that God will teach us to number our days, to cherish and make the most out of the life He’s blessed us with. So that we live everyday to the fullest, appreciate and maximise the gifts that God has blessed us with.
‘So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom ………………….. O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days ………………… And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.’Psalm 90:12-17 (KJV
These are my thoughts, I would like to know yours.
